Heritage Design, Reliable Performance
The QED Classic 79 Strand has been a fixture in the UK speaker cable market since QED’s early years, earning recognition as an industry standard for entry-level hi-fi installations. Built around 79 strands of oxygen-free copper in a parallel twin Figure-8 construction, it delivers consistently low resistance across any practical run length — a key factor in preserving amplifier damping factor and bass control at the speaker end of the chain.
Practical by Design
Sold unterminated by the metre, the 79 Strand suits both custom-cut room installations and those who prefer to terminate with their own choice of banana plugs, spades, or bare wire connections. The slim 4mm outer jacket routes discreetly behind skirting boards and through trunking, while the Figure-8 profile separates the positive and negative conductors without twist — keeping inductance predictable and geometry consistent over long runs. QED confirm compatibility with their ABS, Metal and Mini Airloc termination hardware.
Where It Sits in the QED Range
The Classic 79 Strand occupies the entry position in QED’s cable hierarchy, below the Performance and Reference tiers. It won the Federation of British Audio Test of Time Award — an industry recognition for a product that has continued to sell on merit over an extended period rather than marketing.
