Q Acoustics QI80RP Performance In-Wall Speaker (Single)

The QI80RP is the largest in-wall speaker in Q Acoustics' Q Install Performance range, sitting above the smaller QI65RP. Where the QI65RP uses a 6.5-inch bass/mid driver, the QI80RP steps up to a full 8-inch unit, extending low-frequency reach down to 60Hz and delivering greater output for larger rooms and dedicated home theatre installations.

Driver Technology

The QI80RP uses Q Acoustics' Nano Particle mass damped polypropylene cone for its 8-inch bass/mid-range driver. This cone treatment adds fine particles to the polypropylene material to control resonances and reduce colouration. The driver is paired with a high-powered voice coil and magnet assembly, yielding low distortion and high transient power capability across the 15–100W operating range.

High frequencies are handled by a 1-inch (25mm) silk dome tweeter mounted on a swivel mechanism. The swivel allows the tweeter to be angled toward the primary listening position after installation, providing precise control over high-frequency dispersion. A mesh grille protects the dome, and a switchable high-frequency level adjustment lets installers fine-tune treble output to suit the room acoustics and listener preference.

Crossover & Midrange Performance

A high-order crossover network manages the transition between the woofer and tweeter, ensuring a smooth handoff with minimal phase distortion. Q Acoustics paid particular attention to the midrange frequency response, reducing sources of colouration to keep speech clear and intelligible — a critical consideration in home cinema applications where dialogue clarity is paramount.

Installation

The QI80RP requires a rectangular cutout of 335mm × 233mm and has a maximum rear depth of just 95mm, allowing it to fit within standard stud wall cavities. A low-profile magnetic grille (365mm × 263mm) clips into place without visible fixings, maintaining a clean, unobtrusive appearance. The grille is available in round or square profiles to suit different aesthetic preferences.
