The Q Acoustics QI80RF is a fire and acoustic hood designed to fit over the rear of QI80R in-ceiling speakers. It is a legal requirement in many new-build and renovation projects where fire-rated ceilings must maintain their integrity after speaker cut-outs are made. The QI80RF allows Q Acoustics QI80R speakers to be installed in fire-rated ceilings without compromising the building’s fire safety compliance.
Fire Protection
The hood is constructed from woven glass fabric (0.40mm thick, 430 g/m², 1360 d’tex warp count) and a fire-resistant sponge intumescent lining. When tested at the UK Building Test Centre to Trada FR 1739, the hood achieved an integrity rating of 240 minutes and an insulation rating of 46 minutes. It maintains the fire rating integrity of the ceiling to which it is fitted, enabling 30-minute or 60-minute fire ratings to be preserved.
Acoustic Performance
In addition to fire protection, the QI80RF reduces the rear transmission of sound by approximately 10dB across the mid-to-high frequency range. This helps minimise noise bleed into rooms or properties adjacent to or above the speaker installation.
Building Regulations Compliance
The QI80RF has been tested at the UK Building Test Centre and complies with Part B (fire safety) and Part E (resistance to sound) of the UK Building Regulations. It is suitable for both residential and commercial installations where fire and acoustic isolation of in-ceiling speaker locations is required.
