The Q Acoustics QI80CF is a fire and acoustic hood designed specifically for the QI80 and QI80 SUB in-ceiling speaker models. Part of the Q Install range of installation accessories, these hoods are a legal requirement for speakers installed below habitable rooms and escape routes, ensuring compliance with Part B (Fire Safety) and Part E (Sound Insulation) of UK Building Regulations.
Fire Protection
Constructed from woven glass fabric with a thickness of 0.40mm and a weight of 430 g/m², the QI80CF maintains the fire rating integrity of ceilings and supports both 30-minute and 60-minute fire ratings. The fabric uses a 1360 d’tex warp count with a starch weave lock finish, providing robust fire resistance with a flash ignition point between 315°C and 370°C and an auto-ignition point between 370°C and 427°C.
Acoustic Insulation
Beyond fire safety, the QI80CF reduces the rear transmission of sound by approximately 10dB across the mid to high frequency range. This minimises sound leakage between floors, making it essential for multi-storey installations where acoustic privacy is important.
Construction
The hood combines the woven glass fabric outer with an acoustic sponge core. The sponge component has a specific gravity range of 10–600 kg/m³ and is water-insoluble with no significant odour. The assembly is thermally stable with a decomposition temperature above 180°C and a thermal energy rating of 28,000 KJ/kg.
