Q Acoustics QI65ST In-Ceiling Stereo Speaker (Single)

The Q Acoustics QI65ST is a 6.5-inch in-ceiling stereo speaker from the Q Install Professional range. It delivers true stereo sound from a single ceiling point, making it an efficient solution for multi-room audio where running two separate speaker cables to each location is impractical. With a dual-tweeter configuration, the QI65ST produces a convincing stereo image without needing a second speaker, which simplifies both wiring and installation in rooms such as kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.

Construction & Design

The QI65ST features a 6.5-inch woofer paired with a 0.75-inch (19mm) swivel tweeter. The swivel mechanism allows the tweeter to be angled after installation, directing high-frequency output towards the primary listening area for improved stereo imaging. The speaker is built from UL94 flame-retardant materials throughout, meeting safety requirements for ceiling-mounted installations.

With a maximum rear depth of just 84mm and a 203mm cut-out diameter, the QI65ST fits into standard ceiling voids without requiring significant structural clearance. Installation uses four clamps that are operated entirely from the front of the speaker, eliminating the need for rear access once the cut-out hole is made. A cutter guide template is included to ensure a clean, precise cut-out. Push-open speaker terminals accept bare wire with one-hand operation, speeding up multi-room installations.

Grille Options

The QI65ST is available with either a square or circular magnetic grille. Both options clip into place magnetically with no visible fixings, and the grille geometry has been optimised to balance acoustic transparency with a discreet visual profile. Grilles are cloth-backed and paintable, allowing them to be colour-matched to any ceiling finish. Switching between square and circular grilles is possible without removing the speaker from the ceiling.

Performance & Flexibility

An onboard crossover switch provides adjustable high-frequency response of ±3dB, allowing the tonal balance to be fine-tuned for different room acoustics and ceiling heights. The speaker is moisture-proof, making it suitable for installation in kitchens and bathrooms where humidity levels are higher than typical living spaces.

Rated at 8 ohms nominal impedance with a power handling of 15–60W (programme), the QI65ST is compatible with a wide range of amplifiers and multi-room distribution systems. Sensitivity is rated at 86dB SPL (2.83V at 1m), with a low-frequency extension down to 75Hz (−3dB).
