The Q Acoustics QI50CF is a fire and acoustic hood designed to cover the rear of Q Acoustics Qi 50 and IC125 in-ceiling speakers. Required by UK Building Regulations for many new-build and renovation projects, the hood maintains the fire rating integrity of the ceiling into which the speaker is installed, enabling 30-minute or 60-minute fire rating to be preserved. It has been independently tested at the UK Building Test Centre and complies with Part B (fire safety) and Part E (resistance to sound) of the Building Regulations.
Fire & Acoustic Protection
The QI50CF is constructed from woven glass fabric with a starch weave lock finish. This material provides excellent fire resistance, with a flash ignition point of 315–370°C and an auto-ignition point of 370–427°C. The hood remains stable across a wide operating temperature range of −40°C to +120°C, ensuring reliable performance in all typical installation environments.
Beyond fire protection, the hood serves as an effective acoustic barrier. When fitted over the rear of the speaker, it reduces the transmission of sound to adjacent rooms by approximately 10dB across the mid to high frequency range. This makes it a practical solution for multi-storey dwellings, conversions, and any installation where sound isolation between floors is important.
Installation
The QI50CF features integrated fixing points and a flexible design that accommodates straightforward installation in both new construction and retrofit projects. Its compact, lightweight construction allows for easy handling within ceiling voids. The hood is designed specifically for circular in-ceiling speakers in the Q Acoustics Qi 50 range and the IC125 model.
