The Qi 80Cp is Q Acoustics' entry into the 8″ in-ceiling speaker format within the Q Install range, sitting above the QI65CP Performance and below the QI80C at £360. Where the QI65 series uses a 6.5″ woofer, the Qi 80Cp steps up to a full 8″ driver, extending bass output and reducing the sensitivity limitations of the smaller format. The “CP” designation — shared with the QI65CP — denotes the Performance tier within the Q Install line, with a swivelling tweeter and adjustable high-frequency response not found on the standard entry-level models.
Driver Configuration and Acoustics
The Qi 80Cp is a two-way design combining an 8″ woofer with a swivelling 1″ (25 mm) tweeter. The swivelling tweeter mount allows the high-frequency driver to be angled towards the primary listening position after installation, compensating for off-axis placement that is inherent to ceiling mounting. The crossover incorporates a ±3 dB high-frequency adjustment switch, enabling the installer to tailor the treble output to room conditions — useful when hard reflective surfaces are present or when the speaker is installed behind a significant air gap.
Construction and Installation
The enclosure uses UL94-rated flame-retardant materials throughout, meeting the building regulations typically required for ceiling installations. The basket and rear housing are moisture-proof, making the Qi 80Cp suitable for bathroom and kitchen installations where humidity could otherwise damage conventional speaker components. The magnetic grille system allows the grille to clip on without visible fixings; a separate circular grille option is also available for aesthetic flexibility. Speaker connections use tool-free push-open terminals, and the speaker ships with an installation template and fitting instructions. The maximum rear depth of 97 mm and a cutout diameter of 248 mm are the key installation parameters for joinery.
System Integration
At 8 ohms nominal impedance and 88 dB sensitivity (2.83V/1m), the Qi 80Cp is compatible with standard whole-home audio distribution amplifiers and matrix systems. The 15–80 W programme power handling allows operation from modestly rated zone outputs while accommodating larger amplifiers in custom installations. A compatible Fire & Acoustic Hood is available separately from Q Acoustics for installations where UK building regulations require fire stopping above the ceiling void.
