The Q Acoustics QI 65RF is a fire and acoustic hood designed to fit the QI 65R range of in-ceiling speakers. Where speakers are installed into ceilings that form part of a fire compartment, a fire hood is a legal requirement under UK Building Regulations — the QI 65RF ensures compliance while simultaneously improving acoustic isolation between floors.
Fire Protection
Constructed from woven glass fabric, the QI 65RF maintains the fire rating integrity of the ceiling to which it is fitted, enabling 30-minute or 60-minute fire ratings to be preserved. The hood has been independently tested at the UK Building Test Centre and complies with Part B (fire safety) and Part E (resistance to the passage of sound) of UK Building Regulations.
Acoustic Isolation
In addition to fire protection, the QI 65RF reduces rear sound transmission by approximately 10dB across the mid-to-high frequency range. This limits sound leakage into the room above or below, making it particularly valuable in multi-storey residential installations, apartments, and commercial environments where noise transfer between floors must be minimised.
Construction
The hood is fabricated from woven glass fabric with a starch weave lock finish. The material has a flash ignition point of 315–370°C and an auto-ignition point of 370–427°C (ASTM D 1929), providing a substantial safety margin under fire conditions. Integrated fixing points and a flexible design accommodate straightforward installation in both new-build and retrofit projects.
Compatibility
The QI 65RF is designed specifically for QI 65R speaker models. Other fire hood sizes are available in the Q Acoustics range to suit different speaker models, including the QI 50CF, QI 65CF, QI 80CF, QI 80RF, and QI 65LCRF.
