The Q Acoustics Qi 65C sits within the Q Install range as a competent general-purpose in-ceiling loudspeaker designed for whole-home audio distribution, multi-room systems, and dedicated listening rooms where a discreet, flush-mounted installation is required. It takes the standard two-way in-ceiling format — a circular driver assembly with a push-fit dog-leg locking mechanism — and adds practical engineering features that make it suitable for a wider range of installation contexts than entry-level alternatives.

Drivers and Acoustic Design

The Qi 65C uses a 6.5-inch polypropylene woofer paired with a 0.75-inch (19mm) swivel tweeter. The swivelling tweeter is a practically important feature in multi-room installations: because in-ceiling speakers are frequently installed off-axis relative to the primary listening position, the ability to angle the high-frequency driver independently of the baffle allows the installer to optimise stereo imaging without having to relocate the speaker cutout. A crossover-mounted high-frequency trim switch provides ±3dB adjustment, allowing further tonal tailoring to suit the acoustic character of the room — useful when the speaker is installed in a hard-surfaced kitchen or a well-damped living space.

Construction and Installation

The Qi 65C is built using moisture-proof materials rated to UL94 flame-retardant standards, making it appropriate for installation in kitchens and other humid environments. The baffle is circular, requiring a 203mm cutout, with a maximum rear depth of 79mm — a relatively compact depth that accommodates the majority of standard UK ceiling construction types. Grilles attach magnetically and remove cleanly without tools. The speaker terminals use a one-handed push-connector design, simplifying installation when working in confined ceiling voids.
