The Q Acoustics M20 HD sits within Q Acoustics' M Series as a versatile powered speaker system designed to serve as the centrepiece of a desktop, living room, or bedroom audio setup. Positioned below the larger M40 micro-towers, the M20 delivers a complete high-resolution wireless music system in a compact bookshelf form factor, pairing one powered speaker with one passive unit connected via a supplied 4-metre speaker cable.
Cabinet Design & Driver Technology
Each M20 enclosure is built around Q Acoustics' proprietary P2P (Point to Point) bracing system, which ties opposing cabinet walls together at strategic internal points to reduce panel resonance and colouration. The two-way reflex-ported design pairs a 22mm decoupled soft-dome tweeter with a 125mm mid/bass driver, crossing over at 2.4kHz. The tweeter's decoupled mounting isolates it from cabinet vibrations, while the curved grille profile is engineered to manage high-frequency dispersion for a wider, more consistent stereo image across the listening area.
Amplification & Digital Signal Processing
The powered speaker houses a built-in digital amplifier rated at 2 x 65W peak (2 x 32W continuous), driving both units from a single mains connection. A rear-panel EQ switch allows the system's digital signal processing to be optimised for three common placement scenarios: free-space, against a wall, or in a corner. This compensates for the bass reinforcement that boundary placement introduces, maintaining tonal balance regardless of where the speakers are positioned in the room.
Connectivity
The M20 supports aptX HD Bluetooth 5.0, enabling wireless streaming of high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/48kHz. For wired sources, a USB Type B input accepts native 24-bit/192kHz audio from a computer or laptop, while a digital optical input handles up to 24-bit/192kHz from a television, games console, or set-top box. Analogue sources are catered for via stereo RCA and 3.5mm line-level inputs, making it straightforward to connect a turntable (via an external phono stage), CD player, or portable music player. A dedicated subwoofer output is provided for those who want to extend low-frequency performance further.
In the Box
The system ships complete with one powered and one passive M20 speaker, a remote handset with batteries, a 4-metre speaker cable, UK and EU power cords (each 1.8m), two foam bungs for port tuning, and a user manual.
