The Q Acoustics Concept 40 is a floorstanding loudspeaker from the original Concept range — the series that established Q Acoustics as a serious force in high-fidelity speaker design. Built around the same Gelcore™ cabinet technology as the award-winning Concept 20 bookshelf speaker, the Concept 40 extends the formula into a taller, twin-woofer enclosure capable of greater bass extension and room-filling dynamics. Gelcore™ Cabinet Construction

The Concept 40 uses Q Acoustics’ proprietary Gelcore™ construction — a cabinet-within-a-cabinet design where two layers of MDF are bonded together with a special resonance-cancelling compound. This compound absorbs kinetic energy generated within the cabinet by the drive units and disperses it as heat, resulting in an enclosure that is both extremely rigid and exhibits very low resonance. The result is a noticeably cleaner, more transparent sound than conventional single-wall cabinets can achieve.

Drive Units & Crossover

The Concept 40 is a 2-way reflex design with a double woofer configuration. Two bespoke 125mm bass/midrange drivers are mounted in a machined aluminium fascia plate, crossing over at 2.3kHz to a 25mm soft-dome tweeter. The twin-driver arrangement delivers greater cone area and improved power handling compared to the single-driver Concept 20, allowing the Concept 40 to produce deeper bass and higher output levels without strain.

Design & Build

The cabinet is finished in a multi-layered high-gloss lacquer — available in Black or White — with clean, minimalist lines and vertical grooves that break up the tall fascia visually. A tripod outrigger base with adjustable spiked feet ensures stability and precise floor coupling. Each speaker weighs 18.5kg, reflecting the substantial construction required for the Gelcore cabinet.
