The Q Acoustics 3090Ci is the dedicated centre channel speaker in Q Acoustics’ 3000i range, sitting alongside the 3010i and 3020i bookshelf speakers, 3050i floorstanders, and 3060S subwoofer. Designed specifically for dialogue reproduction in multi-channel home cinema systems, the 3090Ci uses a two-way driver configuration with twin 100mm mid/bass drivers flanking a centrally mounted 22mm tweeter in a D’Appolito arrangement.
Driver Technology
The 3090Ci’s twin 100mm mid/bass drivers use impregnated and coated paper cones with low-hysteresis rubber surrounds. The paper cone construction is chosen for its natural damping characteristics, while the low-hysteresis surround reduces energy storage and mechanical resonance at the driver’s edges. The 22mm tweeter is decoupled from the main baffle to isolate it from vibrations generated by the mid/bass drivers, helping to maintain high-frequency clarity during demanding film soundtracks.
Cabinet Design
The enclosure is a bass-reflex design with an effective internal volume of 6.6 litres. Q Acoustics crosses over from mid/bass to tweeter at 2.7kHz. The cabinet measures 152 × 430 × 216mm (H × W × D) and weighs 6kg, making it suitable for placement on an AV furniture shelf or cabinet top. Pre-fitted rubber feet provide isolation when shelf-mounted, and optional wall brackets are available for wall-mounting installations.
System Integration
With an average impedance of 6Ω (4Ω minimum) and sensitivity of 89dB, the 3090Ci is straightforward to drive from most AV receivers. Q Acoustics recommends 25–100W from a stereo amplifier or 50–165W per channel from an AV receiver in a two-channel driven configuration. The frequency response extends from 75Hz to 30kHz (+3dB, −6dB), covering the full dialogue band comfortably and crossing over cleanly to a subwoofer at the low end.
