The Q Acoustics 3050i is the flagship floorstanding speaker of the 3000i series, sitting at the top of the range above the 3010i bookshelf and 3020i standmount. Drawing on engineering principles first developed for Q Acoustics' acclaimed Concept 500, the 3050i pairs twin 165mm paper cone midbass drivers with a 22mm decoupled microfibre dome tweeter in a D'Appolito arrangement, delivering a frequency response of 44Hz to 30kHz.
Cabinet Engineering
The 3050i cabinet incorporates two proprietary Q Acoustics technologies. Helmholtz Pressure Equalisation (HPE™) uses a damping-filled tube to convert internal pressure to velocity, reducing standing waves and cabinet resonance for cleaner, more linear bass. Point-to-Point (P2P™) bracing stiffens the enclosure at critical points, minimising panel vibrations that would otherwise colour the midrange and blur stereo imaging.
Conventional terminal panel cut-outs have been eliminated entirely, giving the rear wall greater structural integrity. In their place, low-profile binding posts are recessed deep enough to accept 4mm banana plugs directly.
Design & Placement
The 3050i features distinctively curved cabinet edges and chrome-finished bezels around each driver. Magnetic grilles attach without visible fixings. Rear outrigger stabiliser plinths with adjustable spikes or rubber feet are included, providing a stable footing on any floor surface. Foam bungs are supplied for the twin rear-firing reflex ports, allowing bass response to be tuned for less than ideal room positioning close to rear walls.
With a sensitivity of 91dB and an average impedance of 6 Ohms (4 Ohm minimum), the 3050i is an easy load for most amplifiers — Q Acoustics recommend a stereo amplifier of 25–100W or an AV receiver rated at 50–165W per channel.
