The Q Acoustics 3030c is the largest standmount in the 3000c range, the series that succeeds the award-winning 3000i. Sitting above the compact 3010c and the mid-sized 3020c, it pairs a 142mm mid/bass driver with a 12.5-litre cabinet and reaches down to 48 Hz, against 60 Hz for both smaller models. That makes it the natural choice for listeners who want full-bodied stereo performance without the footprint of a floorstanding speaker. The wider 3000c family also takes in the 3040c and 3050c floorstanders and the 3090c centre channel for home cinema use.
C³ Continuous Curved Cone Driver
At the heart of the 3030c is Q Acoustics’ C³ (C-cubed) Continuous Curved Cone mid/bass driver, a design first introduced in the 5000 Series and the M40 powered micro-towers. The 142mm unit combines the bass performance advantages of a traditional straight conic cone with the midrange and high-frequency control of a flared cone, using a single smooth continuous curve profile. This geometry delivers superior bass dynamics alongside tighter, better-damped low-end response, while its well-controlled dispersion enables smoother integration with the tweeter and allows more flexibility in positioning the speakers near room boundaries. The cone’s profile demands exceptional motor strength, so Q Acoustics couples substantial magnets to the voice coils; those large magnets also drive the pole plate and yoke close to saturation, reducing flux modulation and harmonic distortion.
Hermetically Sealed Tweeter
Based on the tweeter design principle found in the Concept series, the 22mm high-frequency driver is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated, or ‘floating’, from the baffle. This decoupling prevents internal pressure modulations generated within the cabinet and by the adjacent mid/bass driver from reaching the tweeter diaphragm. The inner chamber is carefully vented, lowering distortion and allowing a lower crossover point, set at 2.5 kHz, for seamless integration through the crossover region.
Cabinet Construction
The 3030c’s 12.5-litre enclosure uses P2P (Point to Point) bracing, internal reinforcement fitted to the parts of the cabinet that most need stiffening. By minimising panel vibration and low-end reverberation, P2P bracing improves the focus of the stereo image and gives the soundstage greater accuracy. The cabinet is rear ported, and Q Acoustics recommends allowing at least 0.2m of free space behind the speakers; the supplied foam bungs close the port where they must sit closer than that. The rear panel carries a terminal panel trickled down from the 5000 Series, with recessed low-profile binding posts that keep plugs close to the cabinet back face for a tidy finish and easier placement near a wall. Each speaker uses a standard two-terminal crossover, so connection is single-wired.
Design
The 3000c series evolves the 3000i’s signature look with a more visually minimal approach, with no discernible joints or bolts on the exterior. A one-piece driver trim, in satin nickel (satin chrome on the Satin White model), echoes the unadorned nature of the C³ cone profile, and is compliant bonded to the front baffle to suppress baffle vibration. The 3030c is available in four finishes: Satin Black, Satin White, Claro Walnut, and Pin Oak. Each pair ships with foam bungs and magnetic grilles, finished in black on every model except Satin White, which is supplied with a dark grey grille.
