The Q Acoustics 3020i sits within the 3000i series, the brand’s core loudspeaker range offering high-performance sound at an accessible price. Above it in the lineup is the larger 3030i bookshelf speaker, while below it sits the compact 3010i. The 3020i replaces the original 3020, gaining a 25% larger cabinet volume, a redesigned crossover, and new driver technology that collectively deliver a bigger, more refined sound than its predecessor.
Cabinet & Bracing
The 3020i’s enclosure uses Q Acoustics’ P2P™ (Point to Point) bracing, a computer-aided approach that places internal struts only where they are structurally needed rather than uniformly throughout the cabinet. This targeted reinforcement makes the enclosure exceptionally rigid, reducing unwanted resonance and improving the focus of the stereo image. The result is a soundstage with greater accuracy and spatial definition than the original 3020.
Driver Technology
A 125 mm mid/bass driver and a 22 mm high-frequency driver work through a redesigned crossover at 2.4 kHz. The tweeter is mechanically decoupled from the baffle via a compliant suspension system, isolating it from internal cabinet pressure and adjacent driver vibrations. This allows the high-frequency unit to perform with dramatically reduced interference, producing wide, even dispersion across the listening area.
Connectivity & Placement
Low-profile binding posts are recessed into the rear panel, accepting 4 mm banana plugs while eliminating the conventional terminal panel cut-out. This design improves cabinet structural integrity and allows the speakers to be positioned close to a rear wall. A rear-facing bass reflex port is supplied with foam bungs to tame low-frequency output when placement options are limited, maintaining definition and extension in less-than-ideal rooms.
Mounting Options
The 3020i can be shelf-mounted using the pre-fitted compliant rubber feet, stand-mounted on optional dedicated stands, or wall-mounted using optional brackets. Each mounting method is designed to maintain the speaker’s acoustic performance in different room configurations.
