The Reserve R700 is the flagship floorstanding speaker in Polk Audio’s Reserve series — a range that brings acoustic technologies from the company’s top-tier Legend series to a more accessible price point. Sitting above the two-way R500 and two-way R600, the R700 is a full three-way design with a dedicated sealed midrange enclosure and dual bass drivers, making it the most capable speaker in the Reserve lineup for both two-channel stereo and multi-channel home cinema.
Driver Technology
At the top of the R700’s driver array sits a 25mm Pinnacle Ring Radiator tweeter. This design uses a pointed waveguide to distribute high frequencies evenly across a wide listening area, extending the sweet spot beyond the usual on-axis position. The tweeter is Hi-Res Audio certified, with response reaching up to 50kHz.
The midrange is handled by a 165mm Turbine Cone driver, housed in its own sealed enclosure to prevent interference from the bass drivers. The Turbine Cone’s moulded ridges increase cone rigidity without adding mass, allowing faster and more accurate pistonic movement for a smooth, detailed midrange. Below the midrange sit two 200mm polypropylene woofers, providing the surface area needed for authoritative bass output down to 30Hz.
Bass Engineering
The R700 employs Polk’s Power Port 2.0, a floor-firing port design with an aluminium base that sits close to the floor, using the boundary surface to reinforce low-frequency output. The patented Power Port smooths the flow of air exiting the cabinet, reducing the turbulence noise that conventional rear-firing ports can produce. Working alongside the Power Port, X-Port technology adds precisely tuned pipe absorbers and Eigentone Filters to eliminate internal standing waves and cabinet resonances before they reach the drivers, resulting in cleaner bass with lower distortion.
Cabinet Construction
The R700’s cabinet uses Cabinet Resonance Control (CRC) — strategically angled internal bracing designed to break up standing waves and eliminate panel resonances. The exterior features rounded corners to improve sound dispersion around the cabinet edges. The supplied magnetic grilles are acoustically transparent, allowing the speaker to perform equally well with grilles on or off. Spike and pad feet are included for setup on both hard floors and carpet.
Home Cinema Integration
The Reserve R700 is both IMAX Enhanced and Dolby Atmos compatible, making it well suited as the front left and right channels in a surround sound system. For immersive audio formats, it can be paired with the optional Reserve R900 height modules, which sit on top of the cabinet to add overhead Atmos channels without requiring ceiling-mounted speakers. The Reserve range also includes matching centre channel speakers (R300, R350, R400) and bookshelf models (R100, R200) for a complete surround system.
