Peter Tosh - Equal Rights is the second solo studio album by the Jamaican reggae legend, originally released in 1977. Peter Tosh was a founding member of The Wailers alongside Bunny Wailer and Bob Marley, and Equal Rights is widely regarded as his finest work — a powerful statement of political consciousness and musical mastery that cemented his reputation as one of reggae's most significant voices. This Music On Vinyl pressing presents the album in an expanded 2LP edition, pressed on 180g vinyl for enhanced audio fidelity.

About the Album

Equal Rights arrived at a pivotal moment in reggae history and quickly became one of the genre's most influential recordings. Tosh's commitment to human rights advocacy permeates the track listing: the opening "Get Up, Stand Up" (co-written with Bob Marley) remains one of reggae's defining anthems, while tracks such as "Downpressor Man", "Stepping Razor", and "Apartheid" each became powerful human rights statements in their own right. "Downpressor Man" is a re-working of the traditional "Sinnerman", made internationally famous by Nina Simone, transformed here into a driving roots reggae track.

This expanded 2LP edition goes beyond the original eight-track album to include a full bonus disc (Sides C and D) featuring rare and previously unreleased material previously available only on dubplates. These dub versions and alternate takes offer a fascinating window into the album's production and the reggae dub tradition.
