Pet Shop Boys - Please [180g, Remaster] (LP) Vinyl

Please is the debut studio album by Pet Shop Boys, released on 24 March 1986 by Parlophone in the United Kingdom. It debuted at number three on the UK Albums Chart and carried the number one single "West End Girls". According to the duo the title was chosen so that people could walk into a record shop and ask "Can I have the Pet Shop Boys album, please?"

The Album

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe signed to Parlophone in March 1985 and chose Stephen Hague to produce the record after he reworked "West End Girls" into the slower, moodier version that reached number one. The album was made in ten weeks between November 1985 and January 1986 at Advision Studios in London, engineered by David Jacob. Four singles were drawn from it: "West End Girls", "Love Comes Quickly", "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)" and "Suburbia". The duo sequenced the eleven tracks as a loose storyline that runs from leaving home, through arriving in the city, making money, falling in love and moving to suburbia, to the closing "Why Don't We Live Together?".

The Sleeve

Mark Farrow's cover design is one of the most recognisable in eighties pop: an almost entirely white sleeve carrying a tiny central photograph of Lowe and Tennant, taken by Eric Watson, with the band name and title set in small type beneath it. The printed inner sleeve extends the idea with a grid of further small photographs by Eric Watson, Paul Rider, John Stoddart, Brian Aris, Joe Shutter, Ian Hooton and Chris Burscough.

This Pressing

This is the Parlophone 180 gram reissue, released on 2 March 2018. It carries a 2018 remaster of the original album cut by Tim Young at Metropolis Mastering, and the record was pressed by Optimal Media GmbH. It is a single LP with a printed inner sleeve, catalogue number 190295832759, barcode 0190295832759.
