Panasonic

Panasonic

Panasonic traces its origins to 7 March 1918, when Konosuke Matsushita, then aged 23, founded the Matsushita Electric Housewares Manufacturing Works in Osaka, Japan. Together with his wife Mumeno and her brother Toshio Iue, Konosuke established the business in the downstairs of their rented home, beginning with the manufacture of improved attachment plugs and lamp sockets. His belief that electricity would transform everyday life shaped the company's founding mission of delivering well-made products at accessible prices.

The company grew steadily through the twentieth century, incorporating in 1935 as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. and adopting the "Panasonic" name for international markets from 1955, derived from the Latin "pan" (all) and "sonic" (sound). In 1965, Panasonic introduced its first product under the Technics brand, an audio line that became internationally recognised for precision and performance, notably through high-fidelity turntables. The Technics brand was revived for European markets in 2014. The corporation officially changed its legal name to Panasonic Corporation in 2008.

Today Panasonic is a global electronics manufacturer with a broad product portfolio spanning televisions, cameras, audio equipment, home appliances, and automotive electronics. The company's OLED television range is developed in close collaboration with Technics engineers, applying audio tuning expertise to its flagship display products.
