The Ortofon Stylus 510 MK II is the entry-tier replacement stylus in Ortofon's 5xx OEM cartridge range. The 5xx series is supplied as original equipment by turntable manufacturers including Pro-Ject and is closely related to the Ortofon Alpha factory-fit cartridge. The 510 MK II sits below the 520, 530 and 540 in a four-step hierarchy, with each tier upgrading the diamond profile and tracking precision.
Tipped Elliptical Diamond
The 510 MK II uses a tipped elliptical diamond profile. The elliptical contact area sits more accurately in the record groove than a spherical tip, retrieving more high-frequency detail and reducing tracking distortion in heavily modulated passages. As a straight replacement for a worn stylus on a 510-series cartridge, it restores the cartridge to its original specification.
Universal 5xx Fitment
All cartridges within Ortofon's 5xx range share the same stylus mounting, so the Stylus 510 MK II also fits the Stylus 520, Stylus 530 and Stylus 540 cartridge bodies. The Ortofon Alpha cartridge fitted as standard on a number of Pro-Ject turntables can also be replaced or upgraded with any of the 5xx-series styli, providing a tiered upgrade path from the same starting point.
