The Stylus 30 is the nude Fine Line replacement stylus for Ortofon's OM-series cartridge bodies, sitting in the upper tier of the OM and Super OM range above the elliptical Stylus 10 and the nude elliptical Stylus 20, and below the FG 70 profile fitted to the flagship Stylus 40. Across the OM line, all bodies share the same construction and magnetic circuitry; the stylus assembly is the component that defines the cartridge's performance, so replacing or upgrading to the Stylus 30 lifts an existing OM body to the matching tier without changing the cartridge body.
Stylus profile
The Stylus 30 uses a nude Fine Line diamond mounted with tip dimensions of r/R 8/40 micrometres. The narrow profile traces a more accurate path along the record groove than a conventional elliptical tip and reduces the effective tip mass to 0.3 mg, so the stylus follows complex high-frequency information with less mistracking and lower wear on the groove walls. Frequency response is rated at 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a tolerance of +2/-3 dB, with a tracking ability of 70 micrometres at 315 Hz.
Compatibility
The Stylus 30 is recommended for the Super OM 30, OM 30, OMP 30, OMB 30, LM 30, Concorde 30, SME 30H, LM 30H and TM 30H cartridges. It fits any of these bodies directly, allowing the cartridge to be returned to as-new condition after wear without needing to replace the body itself, and giving owners of lower OM models a defined upgrade path.
Setup
The recommended tracking force is 1.5 g (15 mN), within an operating range of 1.25 to 1.75 g. Tracking angle is 20 degrees and the dynamic lateral compliance is 25 micrometres per millinewton. The stylus body is finished in black and carries the white "30" identifier on its left flank.
