The Stylus 10 sits in the middle of Ortofon's OM-series replacement stylus range, between the entry-level Stylus 5E and the higher-performance Stylus 20, 30 and 40. It is designed as a drop-in upgrade for any Ortofon OM cartridge body, allowing the performance of an OM 5 or OM 10 fitted system to be lifted without changing the cartridge itself.
Elliptical Diamond Profile
The Stylus 10 uses a tipped elliptical diamond with an r/R radius of 8/18 µm. Compared with a spherical tip, the elliptical geometry sits more accurately in the modulated groove, retrieving a wider bandwidth of detail at higher frequencies and reducing tracing distortion. The recommended tracking force is 1.5 g (15 mN), with a permissible range of 1.25 to 1.75 g, and tracking ability at 315 Hz is rated at 60 µm.
OM Series Interchangeability
All cartridges in Ortofon's OM range share a common stylus mount, so the Stylus 10 fits directly onto any OM-series body. Ortofon lists compatibility with Super OM 10, OM 10, OMP 10, OMB 10, OMT 10, LM 10, Concorde 10, Concorde EC 10, Concorde STD, TM 10H, LMB 12, SMB 12 and LMA 12. Fitted to an OM 10 body it produces the standard OM 10 output of 4 mV at 1 kHz (5 cm/sec) into a typical moving-magnet phono input.
Upgrade Path
Owners of an OM 5 or OM 10 body can step up to the Stylus 10 from a Stylus 5E without disturbing the cartridge alignment. Higher-tier styli within the same range, including the Stylus 20, 30 and 40, are also drop-in compatible should a further upgrade be required later.
