The Ortofon 2M Silver/78 Stylus Guard is the genuine protective cover for the 2M Silver and 2M 78 moving magnet cartridges, supplied as a replacement for owners who have lost or damaged the original. It clips onto the front of the cartridge body to shield the cantilever and diamond tip when the cartridge is not in use, or when handling the headshell during cleaning, alignment, or storage.

Made by Ortofon to the same specification as the guard fitted to a new 2M Silver or 2M 78, the part shares the distinctive faceted housing and ribbed side grip of the original. The translucent silver finish identifies it as the version supplied with the 2M Silver and the 78 rpm 2M 78 cartridge, which share the same colour-coded stylus assembly.
Why a Stylus Guard Matters
The diamond and cantilever of a moving magnet cartridge are fragile and exposed.
