Ortofon 2M Bronze Cartridge

The Ortofon 2M Bronze sits in the upper half of Ortofon’s 2M moving magnet cartridge range, above the 2M Red and 2M Blue and below the flagship 2M Black. It shares its body with the 2M Black — a Noryl plastic and glass composite engineered for high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances — and uses the same upgraded engine with split pole pins wound in silver-plated copper wire. Where it differs from the 2M Black is in its stylus: a nude Fine Line diamond on an aluminium tube cantilever, rather than the nude Shibata profile fitted to the Black.

Fine Line Stylus

The Fine Line diamond profile has a slim contact radius that traces high-frequency groove modulations more accurately than the elliptical tip used on the 2M Red and Blue. Its larger footprint along the groove wall spreads tracking force over a wider area, reducing record wear and lowering distortion. The stylus is nude-mounted — bonded directly to the cantilever without an intermediate shank.

Upgraded Engine

The 2M Bronze and 2M Black share an upgraded generator assembly that distinguishes them from the lower-tier 2M models. Split pole pins and silver-plated copper wire in the coils deliver a 5 mV output at standard test velocity (1 kHz, 5 cm/s) with channel separation of 26 dB at 1 kHz and a frequency range extending to 29 kHz at the −3 dB point.

Interchangeable Styli

All styli in the 2M range are mechanically interchangeable across the series. A 2M Bronze owner can upgrade to the 2M Black by purchasing only the replacement stylus assembly, without removing or replacing the cartridge body. Equally, the 2M Bronze stylus can be fitted to a 2M Red or 2M Blue body as an intermediate upgrade step, though the full performance of the stylus is realised on the Bronze or Black body. Ortofon also offers the 2M Bronze in additional mounting formats: the 2MR Bronze (reduced height for low-clearance tonearms), the 2M Bronze Verso (bottom-mount), and the 2M Bronze Premounted on a headshell.
