The Stylus 2M Black LVB 250 is the replacement stylus for Ortofon's 2M Black LVB 250 anniversary cartridge, released in 2020 to mark the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's birth. It pairs a nude Shibata diamond with a boron cantilever, a combination otherwise found in Ortofon's much dearer Cadenza Black moving coil cartridge, and represents the highest-performing stylus available in the 2M series.
Boron Cantilever and Nude Shibata Tip
Boron is one of the stiffest, lightest cantilever materials in cartridge engineering, transmitting groove modulation to the magnet assembly with very low losses. The nude Shibata stylus mounted on it has a slim, highly polished profile that allows an exceedingly wide contact area with the groove walls, retrieving fine detail across the audio band including the highest frequencies.
Nano Tube Suspension
The LVB 250 stylus uses Ortofon's Nano Tube suspension. The rubber compound is based on Multi Wall Carbon Nano Tubes (MWCNT), a high-efficiency nano filler that provides better damping and improved interaction between compliance and damping than the standard 2M suspension formulation.
Compatibility
This stylus is the direct replacement for the 2M Black LVB 250, 2MR Black LVB 250, and 2M Black LVB 250 Premounted cartridges. It is also a recommended upgrade path for owners of the 2M Black, 2M Bronze, and the equivalent 2MR and Premounted variants, since all 2M generators are physically compatible. Fitting the LVB 250 stylus to a 2M Black or 2M Bronze body brings them close to the performance of the anniversary edition.
Stylus Care
With proper care, the nude Shibata diamond will deliver up to 1,000 hours of playback without measurable degradation. Keep records and the stylus tip clean, set tracking force accurately within the recommended range, and avoid touching the cantilever during fitting.
