you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo, released by Geffen Records on 12 June 2026. It follows Sour (2021) and Guts (2023) and was again produced by her longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, who produced and engineered every track. The album title and all of the track titles are stylised in lower case.

The Music

Rodrigo has called the record her most experimental yet, written in part during time spent in London and shaped by a wish to write about newfound contentment without sounding dull. Critics have described it as a pop and 1980s alternative record drawing on dream pop, new wave, pop rock and shimmering synth-pop. The running order is split into two halves: tracks one to seven are grouped under Girl So in Love, and tracks eight to thirteen under You Seem Pretty Sad. Robert Smith of The Cure sings on "what's wrong with me", and Conan Gray adds backing vocals to "honeybee". All three singles, "drop dead", "the cure" and "stupid song", reached the UK top three, with "drop dead" going to number one.

Chart Performance

The album entered the UK Albums Chart at number one with 102,814 album equivalent units, of which 25,562 were vinyl LP sales. It was Rodrigo's biggest opening week and her third consecutive UK number one. It held the top spot for a second week and has since been certified Gold by the BPI. In the United States it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 album equivalent units, and it also topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain and Sweden.

This Pressing

A single 12 inch LP pressed on black vinyl and sold as the Spark In The Dark edition, with side A carrying the Girl So in Love songs and side B the You Seem Pretty Sad songs. The sleeve is a gatefold with a printed inner sleeve, and the cover photograph of Rodrigo upside down on a swing has been widely compared to Jean-Honoré Fragonard's Rococo painting The Swing. Pressed by GZ Media and manufactured in the EU for Geffen Records under catalogue number 00199957611336. One point worth knowing before you buy: the master used for every vinyl pressing of this album omits bridges, outros and other passages on several tracks, among them "honeybee", "maggots for brains", "the cure" and "cigarette smoke", so the record differs from the digital edition.
