Nirvana - Nevermind [180g] (LP) Vinyl

Nevermind was Nirvana's second album and their first for DGC, released on 24 September 1991. This is the single LP edition pressed on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl for Universal's Back To Black reissue series, carrying catalogue number 4244251 and barcode 0720642442517.

The Album

The record was produced by Butch Vig with the band, recorded at Sound City Studios in Van Nuys, California, and mixed by Andy Wallace at Scream Studios. Howie Weinberg mastered it. The line up is Kurt Cobain on guitar and vocals, Krist Novoselic on bass and Dave Grohl on drums, with Cobain credited for the lyrics and Nirvana credited jointly for the music. Jeff Sheehan and Craig Doubet worked as assistant engineers.

Side one opens with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and runs through "In Bloom", "Come As You Are", "Breed", "Lithium" and "Polly". Side two takes in "Territorial Pissings", "Drain You", "Lounge Act", "Stay Away", "On A Plain" and the closing "Something In The Way". The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 in January 1992 and number seven on the UK Albums Chart, and has since been certified thirteen times platinum by the RIAA and nine times platinum by the BPI, with worldwide sales reported at more than 30 million copies.

The sleeve photograph of a four month old baby swimming towards a dollar bill was taken by Kirk Weddle to a concept from Kurt Cobain, with art direction and design by Robert Fisher. Cobain supplied the monkey photograph used in the packaging and Michael Lavine shot the band photographs.

This Pressing

A single 180 gram heavyweight black disc, issued by DGC through Universal Music Group International with Sub Pop credited alongside DGC on the labels and label code LC 07266. The discs carry the David Geffen Company label design, and copies in this series carry a voucher to download an MP3 version of the album.
