Nina Simone - Silk & Soul [180g, Translucent Red, Numbered] (LP) Vinyl

Silk & Soul is Nina Simone's second album for RCA Victor, recorded in New York and originally released in 1967 as LSP-3837. This Music On Vinyl reissue presses it on a single 180 gram translucent red disc, in a limited edition of 2500 individually numbered copies.

The Album

Silk & Soul was arranged and conducted by Sammy Lowe and produced by Danny Davis, and was recorded at RCA Victor Studios in New York with Ray Hall as recording engineer. Del Shields wrote the sleeve notes that appear on the rear of the sleeve.

Side one opens with "It Be's That Way Sometime", written by Simone's brother Sam Waymon, and includes "The Look of Love", the song first heard in the 1966 Casino Royale and taken here from Dusty Springfield. Side two leads with "I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free", which went on to become a Civil Rights anthem, and carries "Turning Point", a song that appears to be about a child making a new friend but turns out to question the origins of racism.

Music On Vinyl's edition is a single 180 gram audiophile disc in translucent red coloured vinyl, limited to 2500 individually numbered copies and carrying a printed hype sticker. It was manufactured and distributed by Music On Vinyl B.V. for Sony Music Entertainment and pressed by Record Industry in the Netherlands. The sleeve reproduces the original RCA Victor artwork.
