New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies [2020 Remaster] (LP) Vinyl

Power, Corruption & Lies is New Order's second studio album, released on 2 May 1983 by Factory Records under the catalogue number FACT 75. It was the first record the band produced themselves, and it moved away from the post-punk of their debut Movement towards synthesisers, sequencers and the rhythms of the dance floor. This is the single LP reissue of 19 September 2025, which carries the 2020 remastered audio previously available only inside the Power, Corruption & Lies Definitive Edition box set.

The Album

Eight tracks run across the two sides. Side one opens with "Age Of Consent" and continues through "We All Stand", "The Village" and "5 8 6". Side two takes in "Your Silent Face", "Ultraviolence", "Ecstasy" and "Leave Me Alone". "Blue Monday" was recorded during the same sessions but was issued separately as a non-album twelve inch single, so it does not appear here. The album reached number 4 on the UK albums chart and was later placed at number 262 on the 2020 edition of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

This Pressing

Issued by Warner Music on 19 September 2025, the record keeps the original Factory catalogue number, printed on the labels as FACT 75 and listed as FACT SEVENTY FIVE. The lacquers were cut by Frank Arkwright, whose initials appear in the runout grooves, and the record was pressed by Optimal Media in Germany. The album was produced by New Order and engineered by Michael Johnson, with Barry Sage and Mark Boyne assisting.

Artwork

Peter Saville's sleeve reproduces A Basket of Roses, a still life by the French painter Henri Fantin-Latour that belongs to the permanent collection of the National Gallery in London. Neither the band name nor the album title appears on the front; in their place a block of colour-coded squares sits in the top right corner, and the key that decodes them is printed on the rear sleeve. In 2010 the cover was one of ten chosen by Royal Mail for its Classic Album Covers stamp set, and in 2014 it was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
