Nakamichi

Nakamichi

Nakamichi was founded in 1948 in Tokyo, Japan by Etsuro Nakamichi as Nakamichi Research Corporation Ltd. The company's early work encompassed portable radios, tonearms, loudspeakers, and communications equipment, before the brand began marketing products under the Nakamichi name in 1972.

From the 1970s onwards, Nakamichi became internationally recognised for its audio cassette decks, and is credited with introducing the world's first three-head cassette deck — a design that set a benchmark for analogue tape reproduction. In 1998 the company was acquired by Grande Holdings, a Hong Kong-based holding company.

Today, Nakamichi produces wireless home theatre systems, including the Shockwafe range, with support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound formats.
