Naim Uniti Atom HDMI All-in-One Player

The Naim Uniti Atom HDMI sits at the heart of the Uniti all-in-one range, positioned above entry-level streaming systems and below the more powerful Uniti Star and Uniti Nova. Updated in 2023, this version adds a galvanically isolated HDMI ARC output as standard, allowing the Atom to serve as the audio hub for a television setup as well as a dedicated two-channel music system.

Design and Build

The Atom is built around a compact, square chassis finished in brushed and anodised aluminium, measuring just 95mm tall. A large circular volume control sits on the top panel, while the front face is dominated by a 5-inch colour TFT touchscreen that displays album art, track information and source status. Four touch-sensitive buttons to the right of the screen handle playback, source selection and favourites. The design is deliberately minimal, with the Naim logo illuminated on the base plinth.

Amplification

Inside the Atom is a 40-watt-per-channel Class A/B amplifier, drawing directly on the circuit topology developed for Naim's NAIT integrated amplifiers. Speaker terminals are on the rear, alongside a dedicated pre-amplifier output for connection to a separate power amplifier if a future upgrade is planned. A headphone output is provided on the front panel.

Connectivity and Streaming

The rear panel provides comprehensive digital connectivity: two optical TOSLink inputs (up to 24bit/96kHz), one coaxial RCA input (up to 24bit/192kHz with DoP 64Fs support), and the new HDMI ARC port. Two USB Type-A ports (front and rear) accept storage devices and USB audio sources. Network connection is via Ethernet or Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac. Bluetooth with aptX HD is built in. For analogue sources, a single RCA input with three selectable sensitivity settings (1V, 2.5V, 6V) is included, along with an analogue output.

Streaming services supported include Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Google Chromecast Built-In, Apple AirPlay 2, internet radio, and UPnP high-resolution audio from a network-attached storage device. The Atom is Roon Ready certified and can participate in a Naim multi-room system of up to five zones, controlled via the Naim app on iOS or Android. The redesigned remote control features backlit buttons for use in dim listening environments.

High-Resolution Audio

The Atom decodes a wide range of lossless and high-resolution formats locally and across the network, including WAV at up to 32bit/384kHz, FLAC and AIFF at up to 24bit/384kHz, ALAC at up to 24bit/384kHz, and DSD at up to 128Fs. Standard compressed formats including MP3, AAC, OGG and WMA are also supported.
