The Monitor Audio Silver 500 8G is the flagship floorstanding loudspeaker in the eighth-generation Silver Series, and the largest of the seven all-new models that make up the range. Monitor Audio positions it as a speaker that is as formidable in sonic presence as it is in size, designed to work equally well as the front pair of a two-channel system or as the anchor of a fully immersive multi-channel installation.

Drive Unit Technology

The Silver 500 8G is a true three-way design. Twin 8-inch C-CAM bass drivers using the latest RST III cone geometry handle the low frequencies, a dedicated 3-inch C-CAM RST III mid-range driver covers the critical vocal band, and a 25 mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter takes care of high frequencies. The RST III driver and motor system have been re-engineered for greater transparency and control, with an updated cone geometry that increases rigidity and reduces colouration, plus a newly developed progressive spider, an upgraded voice coil and an improved venting system for better linearity, airflow and power handling.

The high-frequency C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter has been comprehensively optimised with a vented design and revised internal enclosure geometry to reduce distortion and improve airflow, along with an updated compression ring geometry and a new ring neodymium magnet for increased magnetic efficiency. It sits within the latest UD Waveguide II, which helps the drivers deliver a more stable, consistent performance across all listening levels.

Cabinet and Bass Loading

Bass loading is handled by Monitor Audio's new Silent Flow Port Technology. Increasing the port diameter significantly reduces turbulence compared with previous ranges, while an innovative flare geometry, inspired by the interlocking wing feathers of an owl, guides airflow smoothly through the port and minimises chuffing for cleaner, deeper bass. The port is tuned to 33 Hz, and in-room response extends down to 28 Hz.

Through-Bolt Technology braces each C-CAM drive unit to the rear of the cabinet and tightens it to a specific torque, removing unwanted chassis resonance and strengthening overall cabinet rigidity. Rigid internal bracing and damping are used throughout to reduce panel vibration and improve transient response.

Crossover and Outriggers

The crossover has been upgraded over the previous range, with carefully selected capacitors, inductors and resistors for more precise signal division, reduced electrical losses and minimal colouration. Crossover points sit at 640 Hz between bass and mid-range and 2.8 kHz between mid-range and treble. The Silver Series 8G outriggers take their cue from the flagship Platinum Series 3G to give a wider, more stable foundation; a discreet top-adjust mechanism hidden beneath a spun metal disc allows precise levelling without disrupting the clean aesthetic.
