The Silver 300 8G is the compact floorstanding loudspeaker in Monitor Audio's Silver Series 8G range, sitting between the standmount Silver 100 8G and the larger Silver 500 8G floorstander. Silver Series 8G comprises seven all-new models designed to support both high-performance two-channel listening and fully immersive multi-channel system configurations, and the Silver 300 8G is an elegantly designed 3-way floorstander intended to reproduce the full sonic spectrum with authority, depth and clarity.
Driver Complement and Technology
The Silver 300 8G is a three-way design built around twin 6" C-CAM RST III bass drivers, a dedicated 3" C-CAM RST III mid-range driver and a 25 mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter. The RST III driver and motor system have been re-engineered to deliver greater transparency and control through the critical vocal range, while the updated cone geometry increases rigidity and reduces colouration. A newly developed progressive spider, an upgraded voice coil and an improved venting system ensure enhanced linearity, airflow and power handling. The high-frequency C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter uses a vented design and revised internal enclosure geometry to reduce distortion and improve airflow, together with an updated compression ring geometry and a new ring neodymium magnet for increased magnetic efficiency. The latest UD Waveguide II is fitted to deliver a more stable, consistent dispersion across all listening levels.
Cabinet and Port Design
Bass loading uses Monitor Audio's new Silent Flow Port Technology, tuned to 41 Hz. Increasing the port diameter significantly reduces turbulence compared with previous Silver ranges, and an innovative flare geometry, inspired by the interlocking wing feathers of an owl, guides airflow smoothly through the port and minimises chuffing for cleaner, deeper bass. Through-Bolt Driver technology braces the C-CAM drive units to the rear of the cabinet and tightens them to a specific torque, removing unwanted chassis resonances and strengthening overall cabinet rigidity. Rigid internal bracing and damping further reduce resonance and panel vibration, improving transient response and sonic accuracy. The crossover has been upgraded over the previous range, with carefully selected capacitors, inductors and resistors improving electrical performance and reducing losses; crossover points are set at 610 Hz between the low-frequency and mid-range sections and at 3.3 kHz between mid-range and tweeter.
Performance and System Matching
Sensitivity is rated at 88 dB (2.83 Vrms at 1 m, free-field), with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms and a minimum impedance of 3.9 ohms at 3 kHz. Monitor Audio recommends amplification of 50 to 200 W into 8 ohms, or 100 to 400 W into 4 ohms, and quotes continuous power handling of 200 W (CTA 426-B). In-room frequency response reaches 30 Hz to 35 kHz (-6 dB) and maximum peak SPL is 116 dB (AES75, Z-weighted), making the Silver 300 8G equally suited to stereo listening and to front-channel duties in a home cinema system.
Finish and Fittings
This pair is finished in Satin White, one of three contemporary finishes offered across the Silver Series 8G alongside High Gloss Black and European Walnut. Magnetic grilles are supplied, along with a robust outrigger spike system whose design takes its cue from the flagship Platinum Series 3G: the outriggers provide a wider, more stable foundation and feature a discreet top-adjust levelling mechanism hidden beneath a spun metal disc.
