The Monitor Audio IWB-10 is a sealed pre-construction back box engineered for the IWS-10 in-wall subwoofer driver. It forms one third of Monitor Audio’s discreet custom subwoofer system alongside the IWS-10 driver and the IWA-250 in-wall amplifier, enabling bass reinforcement to be built directly into the fabric of a room without any visible enclosure.
Construction & Acoustic Design
The enclosure is built from MDF certified to CARB level 2 environmental standards and finished in a rugged black Sandex vinyl laminate. Its sealed construction serves two purposes: it provides a controlled 16.5-litre acoustic volume for the IWS-10 driver to work against, and it reduces sound radiation through the wall cavity into adjacent rooms — a common concern with open-back in-wall installations.
Installation
The IWB-10 is designed to fit between standard 14″ stud spacing (16″ centres) and ships with adjustable steel fixing brackets for secure mounting within the wall cavity during the pre-construction phase. External push-type terminals are pre-wired to the enclosure, simplifying cable runs to the IWA-250 amplifier and eliminating the need to access the back of the driver after the wall is closed.
System Integration
The complete Monitor Audio in-wall subwoofer system comprises three components: the IWS-10 passive subwoofer driver, the IWB-10 sealed back box, and the IWA-250 amplifier which delivers up to 250W into 4 ohms. The IWS-10 driver mounts directly into the IWB-10 enclosure, while the IWA-250 can be rack-mounted remotely in a 1U space. This modular approach allows each component to be positioned independently during the build phase.
