Ruark Audio
Ruark Audio was founded in 1985 on the south-east coast of England by Alan O'Rourke and his father, whose background in the British audio industry during the 1960s and 1970s shaped the company's early direction. The business was originally established as Ruark Acoustics and began by manufacturing loudspeaker systems for audio enthusiasts.
In 2006 the company pivoted away from loudspeakers and began creating radios and music systems aimed at a broader audience, combining high-quality audio performance with refined industrial design. Ruark describes its design objectives around three principles: creating products that appeal to the heart as much as the head, achieving clean lines and distinctive controls — most notably the proprietary RotoDial — and delivering audio performance with intuitive operation.
The company is family-owned and based at Temple Farm Industrial Estate in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Ruark's first-generation R1 DAB radio was described by The Sunday Telegraph as "the Aston Martin of DAB radios", a description the company regards as a concise summary of its ethos. The brand today produces a range of radios, music systems, and audio products that balance acoustic performance with considered design.
