The Gold FX 5G is Monitor Audio’s dedicated surround effects speaker within the Gold 5G series — the company’s premium loudspeaker range sitting directly below the flagship Platinum Series II. Designed to bring genuinely immersive surround sound to home cinema installations, the Gold FX pairs two of Monitor Audio’s proprietary MPD (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) high-frequency transducers with two 4″ C-CAM mid/bass drivers in a compact, wall-mountable enclosure.
Driver Technology
The Gold FX 5G deploys the same MPD high-frequency transducer technology trickled down from the Platinum II Series. Each cabinet houses two MPD units mounted on angled baffles, delivering articulate, extended high frequencies up to 50 kHz with exceptional smoothness. The two 4″ (100 mm) mid/bass drivers use Monitor Audio’s C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) cone technology, providing a rigid yet lightweight diaphragm for accurate midrange reproduction and controlled bass output down to 60 Hz.
Bipole/Dipole Configuration
A rear-panel switch allows the Gold FX to operate in either bipole or dipole mode. In bipole mode, both sets of drivers fire in phase, producing a wide, direct soundfield suited to smaller rooms or seating positions close to the surround speakers. In dipole mode, the driver pairs fire out of phase, creating a more diffuse, enveloping soundfield ideal for larger rooms where the surround speakers are further from the listening position. The speakers are supplied as handed pairs to ensure correct left/right channel dispersion.
Cabinet Design and Installation
The sealed cabinet design ensures accurate, predictable performance even when installed in restricted wall voids or positioned close to a rear wall. Recessed cable terminations allow the speaker to sit flush against the mounting surface, and a dedicated flexible mounting bracket is included for straightforward wall installation. Internal wiring uses Pureflow silver-plated OFC (oxygen-free copper) cable for high-quality signal transfer, while single-bolt-through driver mounting provides enhanced bracing strength and driver/baffle decoupling. The crossover employs premium-grade polypropylene film capacitors throughout.
Finishing and Accessories
The Gold FX 5G is available in four premium finishes: Dark Walnut, Piano Gloss Black, Piano Ebony, and Satin White. Bespoke magnetic grilles provide a clean aesthetic and are virtually acoustically transparent, allowing removal without tools for critical listening sessions.
