The Gold 200 is the most compact floorstanding speaker in Monitor Audio’s Gold Series 5G — a range that borrows directly from the engineering developed for the company’s flagship Platinum II loudspeakers. Sitting below the larger Gold 300 in the range hierarchy, the Gold 200 is designed for medium to large rooms where full-scale performance is required without the physical footprint of a larger tower.
Driver Technology
At the top of the Gold 200 sits Monitor Audio’s MPD (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) high-frequency transducer — a ribbon-type driver adapted from the Platinum II series. The MPD’s pleated diaphragm moves air across a much larger surface area than a conventional dome tweeter of equivalent size, delivering extended high frequencies up to 50 kHz with low distortion and exceptional transient response.
Mid-range duties are handled by a dedicated 64 mm (2½″) C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) driver mounted in its own sealed enclosure to isolate it from bass driver back-pressure. Below that, two 165 mm (6½″) RDT II (Rigid Diaphragm Technology) bass drivers provide the low-frequency output. The RDT II cone is a sandwich construction using thin C-CAM on the front face, a Nomex honeycomb core, and a woven carbon-fibre rear skin. This layered approach maximises stiffness while keeping moving mass low, and a DCF (Distortion Cancelling Filter) further reduces high-frequency cone break-up in each bass driver.
Cabinet & Port Design
The three-way crossover transitions at 650 Hz (LF to MF) and 3.5 kHz (MF to HF). Bass loading is provided by dual rear-firing HiVe II (High Velocity, Low Noise) ports. The HiVe II design uses a flared, rifled port tube to smooth airflow and reduce turbulence, resulting in tighter bass with improved transient response compared to conventional circular ports. Drivers are secured using Monitor Audio’s single-bolt-through mounting technique for a rigid, vibration-free connection to the baffle. Internal wiring is Pureflow silver-plated OFC copper throughout.
Build & Finish
The Gold 200 cabinet features a soft-touch top trim and is supplied with bespoke magnetic grilles that are virtually acoustically transparent. Sturdy cast-metal outrigger feet are included, with both spike and rubber foot options for different floor surfaces. Each speaker weighs 21.86 kg. The Gold 200 is available in four premium finishes: Dark Walnut, Piano Ebony, Piano Gloss Black, and Satin White.
