Monitor Audio Gold 100 6G Standmount Speakers Macassar (Pair)

The Monitor Audio Gold 100 6G sits at the heart of the Gold Series 6G range, positioned above the compact Gold 50 6G and below the floorstanding Gold 300 6G and Gold 500 6G. Where most standmounts of this size would settle for a two-way configuration, the Gold 100 6G employs a full three-way design, giving each driver a narrower, more precisely managed frequency band to handle.

Driver Technology

The bass section uses an 8-inch (203 mm) C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) cone produced using Monitor Audio's HDT (Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology) process. This geometry stiffens the cone without adding mass, reducing break-up modes and lowering distortion across the bass band. A 3-inch (76 mm) HDT C-CAM mid-range driver handles the critical midrange from 700 Hz to 2.6 kHz, relieving the bass driver of midrange duties and giving the MPD III tweeter a focused, well-defined handover point at 2.6 kHz.

MPD III Tweeter

The MPD (Multi-layer Polyester Diaphragm) III tweeter extends to 60 kHz, well beyond the limits of human hearing. Its planar design uses a very thin, low-mass diaphragm driven by an array of conductive traces bonded to its surface, producing high-frequency detail with exceptional speed and low colouration. The wide high-frequency extension contributes to a natural, open presentation even when the speakers are driven hard.

Cabinet and Bass Loading

The Gold 100 6G uses a ported cabinet with Monitor Audio's HiVe II port technology. The port is tuned to 38 Hz, supporting an in-room (-6 dB) frequency response of 32 Hz, unusually deep for a standmount speaker. Cabinet construction employs advanced internal bracing to suppress resonance, and the shadowgap driver surround treatment gives the baffle a clean, uncluttered appearance. Magnetic grilles attach without visible fixings and are supplied as standard. The cabinet is compatible with Monitor Audio's ST-2 Universal Stand.

Crossover and Amplifier Matching

The crossover was developed using high-quality capacitors and underwent extensive listening by Monitor Audio's acoustics team. The network crosses over at 700 Hz between bass and mid, and at 2.6 kHz between mid and tweeter. Nominal impedance is 4 Ohms with a minimum of 3.9 Ohms at 140 Hz, so a capable amplifier is required; Monitor Audio recommends 130-500 W continuous into 4 Ohms.

Finish

The Macassar finish is a real wood veneer in a rich, dark-grained macassar ebony pattern, applied to all six faces of the cabinet. The Gold 100 6G is also available in High Gloss Black and Satin White.
