The Monitor Audio CP-WT380 sits at the top of the Controlled Performance in-wall speaker range, pairing an 8-inch C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) bass driver with Monitor Audio's Rigid Surface Technology (RST) — a cone geometry borrowed directly from the brand's range-topping home audio loudspeaker systems. It is designed for permanent installation in stud-wall cavities and suits demanding home cinema and whole-home audio applications where audio performance must match that of a freestanding system.
Driver Technology
The bass driver employs an 8-inch C-CAM cone treated with RST — a pattern of indentations pressed into the cone surface to dramatically increase stiffness without adding mass, resisting break-up modes at higher frequencies while retaining the low moving mass needed for dynamic transient reproduction. The 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter is mounted on a pivot mechanism, allowing it to be angled towards the primary listening position. This compensates for off-axis installation common in rooms where the ideal speaker placement does not coincide with the ideal listening position.
Crossover and Room Correction
The CP-WT380 includes on-board adjustments that allow the installer to tune the speaker's output to suit its acoustic environment. A high-frequency level switch provides ±3 dB of treble adjustment, useful for rooms with particularly hard or soft surfaces. A boundary compensation control reduces bass output when the speaker is installed close to a room boundary — a common scenario in wall-mount configurations where proximity to a floor, ceiling, or wall corner would otherwise cause bass reinforcement.
Installation
The speaker uses Monitor Audio's Tri-Grip fixing system for easier installation. The paintable magnetic steel grille includes scrim material so that it can be decorated to match the wall colour and become virtually invisible once fitted. The enclosure is airtight, preventing acoustic interaction between the speaker cavity and the wall void.
