The CP-WT140-LCR sits within Monitor Audio’s Controlled Performance range of custom installation speakers, designed for retro-fit installation into existing walls without the need for pre-construction brackets. It is a versatile 2-way LCR speaker that can be mounted in either portrait or landscape orientation, serving equally well as a dedicated centre-channel home theatre speaker or as a high-performance music and surround satellite.
Driver Technology
At the heart of the CP-WT140-LCR are twin 4-inch MMP®II (Metal Matrix Polymer) cone bass drivers flanking a 1-inch C-CAM® (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) pivoting gold dome tweeter. The dual-driver configuration offers greater radiating area than a single 6-inch bass unit, delivering improved efficiency, power handling, and sound pressure levels from a compact form factor. The pivoting tweeter allows the high-frequency dispersion to be aimed towards the primary listening position regardless of mounting orientation, which is particularly useful when the speaker is installed off-axis in a surround or height channel role.
A three-position HF level switch (±3 dB) provides fine adjustment of the treble balance to compensate for room acoustics and placement conditions. The crossover operates at 2.6 kHz with 12 dB/octave slopes.
Installation & Construction
The enclosure is constructed from mineral-filled ABS plastic and features a fully airtight sealed design that protects the precision-engineered driver systems against dust and dirt ingress — a critical consideration for in-wall speakers that will be sealed behind plasterboard for years. The four-position Tri-Grip dog leg fixing system provides three times the surface area of conventional toggle or dog-ear clamping schemes, creating a tighter seal against the wall surface and maximising bass response and mid-range clarity.
The magnetic steel grille is easily removable and the front baffle surface is paintable, with additional scrim material provided for trouble-free painting to match the surrounding wall. The cut-out dimensions of 183 × 299 mm and a mounting depth of just 97 mm make retro-fitting straightforward in standard UK stud walls. An optional pre-construction bracket (WB4LCR) is available for new-build installations.
