Monitor Audio CP-CT380-IDC In-Ceiling Speaker (Single)

The Monitor Audio CP-CT380-IDC is the flagship three-way in-ceiling speaker from the Controlled Performance series, combining an 8” RST® C-CAM® bass driver with Monitor Audio’s patented Inverted Dual Concentric (IDC®) midrange/tweeter module for a fully coaxial midrange and high-frequency point source. The IDC module positions a 4” C-CAM inverted midrange driver around a 25 mm C-CAM gold dome tweeter on a pivoting mount, allowing up to 18° of directional adjustment post-installation — enabling precise soundstage steering in rooms where the listening position is not directly beneath the speaker.

IDC Technology

The Inverted Dual Concentric design arranges the midrange cone concentrically around the tweeter, creating a single acoustic centre for frequencies above the bass crossover point. Because both drivers share the same axis, time-alignment and dispersion are inherently consistent across the crossover region, removing the off-axis colouration that typically afflicts conventional two-driver ceiling configurations. The pivoting IDC module can be angled after the speaker is installed and the ceiling finished, so precise aim is not dependent on ceiling geometry.

Bass Driver and Enclosure

The bass driver uses Monitor Audio’s Rigid Surface Technology (RST®) cone profile on a C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium) diaphragm. The fully sealed airtight enclosure isolates each driver from ceiling void contamination, protecting the motor assembly and maintaining consistent bass loading regardless of ceiling depth.

Installation and Control

The Tri-Grip® fixing system provides three times the surface contact area of conventional two-point clamping schemes, improving the mechanical coupling between speaker and ceiling for better bass response and midrange clarity. The speaker includes a ±3 dB high-frequency level switch for acoustic matching to treated or reflective room surfaces, a ±3 dB midrange level adjustment, and a boundary compensation control to reduce boundary-effect bass reinforcement when the speaker is installed close to a wall or corner. The low-profile magnetic grille is paintable and tool-free to remove, and additional scrim material is included for in-situ repainting without masking.
