The CP-CT150 is the entry-level in-ceiling speaker in Monitor Audio’s Controlled Performance range — a series designed specifically for custom installation where both sound quality and visual discretion are paramount. Sitting below the CP-CT260 and CP-CT380, the CT150 uses a compact two-way driver arrangement to deliver high-fidelity audio from a ceiling-mounted enclosure small enough for bathrooms, hallways, and secondary listening zones.
Driver Technology
The CP-CT150 pairs a 5-inch MMP®II (Metal Matrix Polymer) cone bass driver with a 1-inch C-CAM® (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) gold dome tweeter. The tweeter pivots on its mounting, allowing it to be angled towards the primary listening position after installation — a significant advantage in ceiling-mounted applications where the speaker is rarely directly above the listener. A second-order crossover at 2.8 kHz ensures a smooth handoff between the two drivers.
High-Frequency Level Adjustment
A three-position HF level switch (+3 dB, 0 dB, −3 dB) on the rear of the chassis allows the installer to tailor treble output to the room’s acoustics. In rooms with hard, reflective surfaces — tiled bathrooms or kitchens, for example — the −3 dB setting tames excessive brightness, while the +3 dB boost compensates for heavy soft furnishings or thick carpet that would otherwise absorb high frequencies.
Tri-Grip® Fixing System
Monitor Audio’s Tri-Grip® fixing system uses three dog-leg clamps that provide approximately three times the contact area of conventional toggle-style fixings. The increased surface seal against the rear of the ceiling board improves bass response and mid-range clarity by minimising air leakage around the speaker’s perimeter. Installation requires only a 212 mm circular cut-out; the clamps then draw the speaker flush against the board without the need for additional support.
Sealed Enclosure & Construction
The CP-CT150 features an airtight sealed enclosure moulded from mineral-filled ABS plastic, compliant with the RoHS2 directive. The closed-back design serves two purposes: it provides a controlled, predictable air volume behind the bass driver — resulting in tighter, more consistent bass than open-backed ceiling speakers — and it significantly reduces sound leakage into the room or void above. Connection is via gold-plated push-type terminals on the rear panel.
Finish & Grille
The speaker ships with a magnetically attached circular steel grille in a neutral white finish. Both the grille and the visible surround are paintable, and an additional scrim material is included to protect the drivers during the painting process. An optional square grille (249 × 249 mm) is available for installations where a rectangular profile better suits the ceiling layout.
