The Monitor Audio Climate 80 is the largest speaker in the Climate outdoor range, sitting above the Climate 60 and Climate 50. Designed for use in gardens, patios, pool areas, and other outdoor environments, it combines an IP55 weather-resistance rating with driver technology drawn from Monitor Audio’s indoor speaker engineering. Sold as a pair, the Climate 80 delivers a scale of sound that smaller outdoor speakers struggle to match, making it suited to larger open-air listening spaces.
Driver Technology
The Climate 80 is a 2-way design built around a 203 mm (8″) C-CAM bass/mid-range driver and a 25 mm (1″) C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter. C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium) is Monitor Audio’s proprietary driver cone material, used across their indoor and outdoor ranges for its combination of rigidity and low mass. An Auxiliary Bass Radiator (ABR) supplements the main driver, extending low-frequency output without requiring a ported enclosure — an important consideration for outdoor use where bass energy disperses rapidly in open air.
Construction and Weather Resistance
The enclosure is a sealed, solid-moulded high-density polypropylene shell, UV-rated to resist degradation from prolonged sun exposure. The grille is aluminium with a magnetic attachment, providing rust-proof protection for the drivers while allowing easy removal. All internal components are rated to IP55, meaning the speaker is protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction — suitable for exposed outdoor positions where rain, irrigation, or pool splash may be a factor.
The exterior finish is a paintable texture, supplied with a paint mask so the speaker can be colour-matched to walls, fences, or other mounting surfaces without masking off the grille or bracket hardware.
Mounting and Installation
The included bracket provides 175 degrees of rotation, allowing precise aiming across wide listening areas. Angled sections and screw holes accommodate corner fixing, and a separate 15-degree angled wedge is supplied for additional tilt when mounting on flat surfaces. A security chain anchor point is built into the enclosure for theft deterrence in semi-public installations. The Monitor Audio logo on the grille is rotationally aligned, so it reads correctly whether the speaker is mounted in portrait or landscape orientation.
Connections are via gold-plated push-type speaker terminals, designed for straightforward outdoor wiring runs.
