Monitor Audio C165 In-Ceiling Speaker (Single)

The Monitor Audio C165 is the entry point to the Basics in-ceiling range, sitting below the dual-tweeter C165-T2 and the larger-driver C180. It is a 2-way in-ceiling speaker built for custom installation applications where discreet, flush-mounted audio is required without compromising on sound quality.

Driver Technology

The C165 pairs a 6½-inch MMP II (Metal Matrix Polymer II) cone bass driver with Monitor Audio’s signature 1-inch C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter. The tweeter pivots to aim the high-frequency output towards the listening position, improving imaging from an overhead mounting point. A three-position high-frequency level switch (+3 dB, 0 dB, −3 dB) allows installers to fine-tune treble output to suit the room’s acoustics and furnishings.

Installation

The speaker chassis is constructed from mineral-filled ABS plastic (RoHS2 compliant) and uses Monitor Audio’s Tri-Grip dog-leg fixings for secure, tool-free ceiling mounting. The cut-out diameter is 211 mm, with a mounting depth of 114 mm. An optional square grille (249 × 249 mm) and paintable round grille are available for visual integration with different ceiling styles. For new-build or pre-wire installations, the compatible CM-B pre-construction bracket and CSM-BOX back box provide additional mounting flexibility and acoustic isolation.

Applications

The C165 is suitable for distributed multi-room audio systems, surround sound installations, and overhead channel duties within a home cinema environment. With a sensitivity of 88.5 dB and a recommended amplifier power range of 20–65 W, it is easy to drive from most AV receivers and multi-zone amplifiers. The 6-ohm nominal impedance ensures compatibility with a wide range of amplification.

Basics Range

The Basics range is Monitor Audio’s architectural speaker line, designed for custom installation. In-ceiling models include the C165, the C165-T2 (which adds dual independent pivoting tweeters for enhanced stereo imaging from a single point source), and the C180 with its larger 8-inch driver for extended bass response. In-wall models (W165 and W180) and the weatherproof Climate series complete the range.
