The Marantz Model 70 is the entry point to Marantz's range of integrated amplifiers, succeeding the multi-award-winning PM6007 and sitting below the Model 60n, Model 50 and Model 40n in the current line-up. It combines the brand's signature amplification technology with modern connectivity, bringing HDMI ARC, Bluetooth and digital inputs to a classic two-channel design so that vinyl, CD, television and wireless streaming can all share one system.
Amplifier Design
At its heart is a Class A/B amplifier delivering 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms, rising to 65 watts into 4 ohms. Marantz's current feedback topology is paired with its proprietary HDAM SA3 (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) circuits, a refined signal path that enhances clarity, detail and overall transparency. Total harmonic distortion is rated at 0.08% with a damping factor of 100, and frequency response extends from 5 Hz to 50 kHz, giving the Model 70 confident control and composure across a wide range of loudspeakers.
Power Supply
The Model 70 uses a toroidal power transformer with a linear drive power supply and Schottky diodes, supported by an aluminium extrusion heat sink. High-grade and customised audio components are used throughout the signal path to keep the noise floor low.
Inputs and Connectivity
Four analogue inputs include a built-in moving magnet phono stage for turntables, with gold-plated RCA connections. Optical and coaxial digital inputs feed an ES Sabre DAC, while the HDMI ARC input lets the Model 70 serve as a high-quality amplifier for television sound with control from the TV remote via HDMI. Bluetooth is built in with support for aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive. A pre-out with dedicated subwoofer output allows system expansion, and auto power on by digital input signal makes day-to-day use straightforward.
Headphone Listening
A front-panel headphone output caters for wired listening, while Bluetooth headphone transmission lets you send audio to wireless headphones directly from the amplifier, complete with independent headphone volume control.
Design
The Model 70 reinterprets Marantz's iconic design language with refined proportions, premium materials and the familiar central display porthole, here a low-noise OLED display. Source Direct mode bypasses the bass, treble and balance controls for the purest signal path, and the supplied RC006PMCD remote offers system control of matching Marantz components.
