The Marantz Model 40n is the flagship networked integrated amplifier in Marantz’s current stereo range, sitting above the Model 30 and slotting beneath the reference-grade PM-12SE. It combines a 70W per channel Class A/B power amplifier with HEOS Built-in streaming, HDMI ARC, and a dedicated MM phono stage — everything needed for a complete modern hi-fi system in a single chassis.
HDAM Amplification
At the heart of the Model 40n is Marantz’s proprietary HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) technology. The amplifier stage uses HDAM-SA3 modules with a current-feedback topology, delivering faster slew rates and wider bandwidth than conventional op-amp circuits. Power is drawn from a double-shielded toroidal transformer housed in an SECC chassis with a double-layer bottom plate to minimise vibration and electromagnetic interference. The result is 70W per channel into 8Ω or 100W into 4Ω, with total harmonic distortion of just 0.02% across the full 20Hz–20kHz band.
Network Streaming & Digital Audio
HEOS Built-in provides access to Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer, TuneIn, and more, controlled via the HEOS app or voice assistants including Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The Model 40n supports high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192kHz in FLAC, WAV, and AIFF formats, ALAC up to 24-bit/96kHz, and DSD streaming over the network. Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth 5.4 (SBC codec) are also on board for wireless playback, while Wi-Fi supports dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n/ac for a stable network connection. HEOS multi-room capability allows the Model 40n to stream in sync with other HEOS-enabled components throughout the home.
Analogue & Digital Inputs
The rear panel carries four RCA analogue inputs (Phono, CD, Line, Recorder), a recorder output, and a dedicated power amplifier input for use with an external preamplifier. The Marantz Musical Phono EQ handles MM cartridges directly, with an input sensitivity of 1.6mV and RIAA deviation of ±0.5dB. Digital inputs include one optical, one coaxial, and a USB-A port for mass storage playback. The HDMI ARC input accepts PCM audio from a connected television, with CEC control for seamless operation.
Subwoofer Integration
A pre-out subwoofer output with a selectable low-pass crossover filter (40, 60, 80, 100, or 120Hz) allows straightforward bass management when pairing with an active subwoofer — making the Model 40n a genuine 2.2-channel amplifier.
Design & Build
The Model 40n continues Marantz’s design heritage with an aluminium front panel, aluminium volume and input selector knobs, and the signature porthole display. Edge lighting with a dimmer function adds a subtle accent, while the steel top cover and SECC chassis provide structural rigidity. The unit is designed and engineered in Japan.
