The MP-40 2.1 is Lyngdorf Audio's compact immersive surround sound processor, sitting below the flagship MP-60 2.1 in the Danish company's home cinema range. Lyngdorf positions it as offering the same sonic qualities and performance as the MP-60 2.1 in a streamlined design intended for smaller immersive or surround sound home cinemas.
Processing and Immersive Formats
The MP-40 2.1 provides 12 decoding and upmixing channels and supports the current immersive audio formats, including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D, alongside every legacy surround codec. Post-processing options include Dolby Surround, Auro-Matic and DTS Neural:X for upmixing two-channel and standard surround material across the speaker layout.
RoomPerfect Room Correction
At the heart of the processor is Lyngdorf's RoomPerfect calibration system, which measures the interaction between the loudspeakers and the room and adapts the system's response to the acoustic environment. A supplied measurement microphone connects to the dedicated XLR input on the rear panel. The processor also offers 32 adjustable voicings, each holding up to 8 shelving, high pass, low pass or parametric filters for fine tuning.
Video and HDMI
Three HDMI inputs (one with eARC) and two HDMI outputs are built around HDMI 2.1 with a 40 Gbps fixed rate link. The processor passes 8K30 RGB / YCbCr 4:4:4 10-bit video, 8K60 YCbCr 4:2:0 10-bit and 4K120 4:4:4 10-bit high frame rate video, with support for HDR, Dolby Vision, variable refresh rate and auto low latency mode.
Connectivity and Streaming
Audio is delivered through 16 balanced XLR analogue outputs rated at a maximum of 8 Vrms. Digital inputs comprise an AES/EBU input, three coaxial S/PDIF inputs, four optical S/PDIF inputs and a USB audio input. Network streaming covers AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect with Dolby Atmos Music and Roon Ready operation, plus internet radio and DLNA. System integration is handled through RS232, IR input and output, 12V triggers and an Ethernet connection.
