The CD-2 is Lyngdorf Audio's dedicated pure audio CD player, drawing on the engineering experience the Danish company gained developing its award-winning digital amplifiers. Rather than using a multi-format drive, it is built around a dedicated audio transport so that the audio output clock is never re-sampled, a design choice aimed squarely at sound quality.
Construction
The CD-2 is housed in a thick, vibration-free aluminium chassis with a vibration-damped lid, giving it a substantial, rigid structure. The finish is anodised aluminium in matte black. Throughout the design, particular emphasis was placed on the lowest possible noise levels, a short signal path, and the minimisation of external influences, ensuring both low radiation and immunity to external interference.
Digital and analogue stages
A custom switch-mode power supply with four independent secondary windings keeps the analogue and digital supplies separate, minimising digital noise. Digital-to-analogue conversion is handled by Wolfson WM8740 chips, paired with a balanced design and audiophile-grade op-amps. The internal analogue processing runs at 24-bit, 96kHz.
Connectivity
Analogue connections comprise single-ended RCA and balanced XLR outputs, with adjustable output levels of 3.5V on RCA and 7.0V on XLR. Digital outputs include a galvanically isolated coaxial output and an optical output, allowing the CD-2 to feed an external DAC or processor. Coaxial output supports 44.1kHz 16-bit and selectable 48, 96, and 192kHz 24-bit; optical supports 44.1kHz 16-bit and selectable 48 and 96kHz 24-bit.
