The Logitech Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 bridges the gap between Harmony infrared remotes and Sony's Bluetooth-only PS3 console. Rather than requiring a dedicated PlayStation remote or sacrificing a USB port, it receives the IR signal from any Harmony remote and retransmits it as a Bluetooth command directly to the PS3. The result is seamless PS3 integration within a single-remote home entertainment setup.
How It Works
The PS3 does not have an infrared receiver — it uses Bluetooth exclusively for wireless control. The Harmony Adapter sits between your Harmony remote and the console: it picks up the standard IR commands from your Harmony and converts them to Bluetooth signals that the PS3 understands. The adapter runs off mains power via an AC adaptor, which means it can send a wake-up signal to the PS3 even when the console is fully off and its USB ports are inactive.
Full Command Set
The adapter gives you access to all 51 PlayStation 3 commands, covering every function available through the PS3's XrossMediaBar (XMB) — system navigation, media playback, Blu-ray and DVD control, and full power on/off. Within a Harmony activity, the PS3 can be included alongside your AV receiver, television, and other source components, all controlled from a single remote without switching devices.
