Leema Acoustics
Leema Acoustics was founded in Wales by Lee Taylor and Mallory Nicholls, both former engineers at the BBC. The company name is derived from the first names of its two founders. The venture began as a hobby project in a small shed, with the founders drawing on their professional audio experience to develop high-quality domestic audio equipment. Lee Taylor, the lead designer, previously worked on major BBC television productions and holds a BAFTA award for his audio work.
The company's first major product was the Xen micro monitor loudspeaker, the result of four years of intensive development. As demand grew, Leema partnered in 2007 with local Welsh manufacturer Davlec, established in 1983 with a background in precision engineering for automotive and metrology industries. In 2014, the two companies formally merged and now operate under one roof in Welshpool, Powys, combining design expertise with precision manufacturing capability.
A key Leema technology is LIPS — the Leema Intelligent Protocol System — a proprietary switching and control mechanism that automatically adjusts system parameters based on the selected source or operating mode, enabling advanced component integration without requiring a traditional preamplifier. The current product range spans four series — Constellation, Spectrum, Elements, and Essentials — alongside the Quantum range of electronics introduced for the brand's 25th anniversary in 2023.
